At least 36 dead in Italy bus crash




ROME: A tour bus filled with Italian pilgrims plunged off a highway into a ravine in southern Italy and smashed into several cars that had slowed in heavy traffic, killing at least 36 people, said police and rescuers.

Flashing signs near Avellino, outside Naples, had warned of slowed traffic along the stretch of the A116 autostrada, a major highway crossing southern Italy, before the crash occurred last night, said highway police and officials, speaking on state radio.

Dozens killed in Boko Haram raid in Nigeria



Suspected fighters from the Nigerian group Boko Haram have staged an attack on the northeastern town of Bama, freeing over 100 prison inmates and leaving 55 people dead, the military said.

Around 200 heavily armed members of Boko Haram arrived in buses and pick-up trucks and carried out the coordinated strike on Tuesday, first hitting the army barracks and the police station before breaking into the town's prison, military spokesman Sagir Musa told the Reuters news agency.

Punjab: Six policemen killed, 11 injured in road accident



Fatehgarh Sahib: Six police personnel, including a woman, were on Monday killed and eleven others sustained injuries in a road accident near village Lohari, 10 km from Fatehgarh Sahib, police said.

The mishap occurred when a jeep in which 17 policemen were travelling was hit by a truck near village Lohari, police said.

Fourteen dead, 33 hurt in Myanmar bus crash: police



YANGON: Fourteen people were killed and 33 injured Wednesday when a passenger bus plunged off the side of a mountain in western Myanmar, police said.

The vehicle was travelling from Yangon to Thandwe in Rakhine state when it crashed, the Myanmar Police Force said on its Facebook page.
