Six suicide attackers killed in Afghanistan: officials

KABUL: Afghan security forces killed six suicide bombers who attacked the Panjshir provincial governor's office early Wednesday, officials said, in an assault on one of the most stable areas of the country.

Panjshir, an ethnically Tajik area northeast of Kabul, was a bastion of anti-Taliban resistance during the extremists' 1996-2001 regime, and has been among the most peaceful provinces in Afghanistan since they were ousted.

Bomb blast in Swat kills peace committeea leader’s son

SWAT: A bomb blast took place in Swat’s  Mingor area killing Burgat Ali, son of a PML-N leader and peace committee member Sher Ali, on Tuesday.

Moreover, police said 10 people were injured in the explosion and the bomb was detonated through a remote controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Bus flips over in Mexico; 16 dead

MEXICO CITY: A bus apparently went out of control after a blowout and turned over, killing 16 people in central Hidalgo state, Mexican authorities said.

State attorney general's spokesman Fernando Hidalgo said the accident happened Sunday afternoon as a group of tourists was returning to Mexico City from a weekend trip to the thermal baths in the town of Santa Maria Amajac.

Car bombs, shooting in Iraq kill four people

BAGHDAD: Iraqi officials say a shooting and two car bombs have killed four people and wounded 26 in the western and northern parts of the country.

Police officials say the deadliest attack took place on Wednesday morning when gunmen sprayed a police checkpoint with bullets in the western city of Fallujah, killing three policemen.

In the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, police say a car bomb exploded near the offices of a Kurdish party, wounding 20 people.

Six of a family killed, wounded in Uruzgan blast

TIRINKOT : Six people of a family were killed and wounded in a roadside bombing in the Charchino district of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Wednesday.

A man and two of his children were killed and three women injured when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in Sakhir area late Tuesday evening.

Police spokesman Farid Ayel told Pajhwok Afghan News the injured had been evacuated to a local hospital. However, he would not comment on their condition.

Three car bomb blasts kill 11 in Iraq Shia provinces

BAGHDAD: At least 11 people were killed and dozens wounded when three car bombs tore through public markets in Shia provinces in southern Iraq early on Monday, medics and police sources said.

Sectarian tensions are at their highest since US troops left Iraq more than a year ago and militant attacks have increased as the country's fragile intercommunal balance comes under growing strain from the civil war in neighbouring Syria.

More than 180 people have been killed since Tuesday, when security forces stormed a Sunni protest camp near Kirkuk, triggering clashes that quickly spread to other Sunni areas in western and northern provinces.

Fifteen killed in car bomb explosion in Damascus

A car bomb rocked a busy residential and commercial district in central Damascus on Monday, killing at least 15 people and causing heavy material damage, a Syrian government official said.

The blast, which state-run Syrian TV described as a terrorist suicide bombing, went off near the Sabaa Bahrat Square, one of the capital’s biggest roundabouts. The Syrian Central Bank, a mosque and a school are located nearby.

Anti-government strike hits Bangladesh

DHAKA: Opposition activists have detonated small homemade bombs and set fire to several vehicles in the latest anti-government protest to hit Bangladesh’s capital, police said.  

Bangladesh’s main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its 17 allies staged the protest to enforce a nationwide strike Tuesday to press for the release of more than 150 opposition members arrested during earlier anti-government protests.
